DeLay Indicted in Campaign Finance Probe

"DeLay is the first House leader to be indicted while in office in at least a century, according to congressional historians."

Maybe the tide is turning? Is there still a chance that Rove will be held accountable for his outing of Valerie Plame?

Between the hurricanes and Bush's supreme court pick, attention has shifted away from Rove

A day late and a dollar short

Oh sure - after being publicly spanked over the New Orleans fiasco and seeing that it's his home state that's in the path of the hurricane, Bush decides to get serious about this stuff.

Sure feels like a case of trying to catch up. I'll bet this hurricane readiness makes the citizens of New Orleans feel great!

Ok, I admit that the National Enquirer is not the most legitimate news source.
:

"Family sources have told how the 59-year-old president was caught by First Lady Laura downing a shot of booze at their family ranch in Crawford, Texas, when he learned of the hurricane disaster."

Decision making at it's very finest.

Bill O'Reilly blames the victims
:

"Many, many, many of the poor in New Orleans are in that condition. They weren't going to leave no matter what you did. They were drug-addicted. They weren't going to get turned off from their source. They were thugs, whatever."

This link has the audio clip - there's no denying what he said. He's trying to cover up for the Feds, claiming that there was nothing, no how, that would have made these people leave. As if being drug addicted was a reason to abandon them.

The fact is, these people couldn't leave. Their problem wasn't drugs, it was poverty. No one thought ahead, the system failed. In spite of the warnings, the Bush Administration did nothing. Pathetic.

Anonymous email making the rounds:

The 23rd Qualm

Bush is my shepherd; I dwell in want.

He maketh logs to be cut down in national forests.

He leadeth trucks into the still wilderness.

He restoreth my fears.

He leadeth me in the paths of international disgrace for his ego's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of pollution and war, I will find no exit, for thou art in office.

Thy tax cuts for the rich and thy media control, they discomfort me.

Thou preparest an agenda of deception in the presence of thy religion.

Thou anointest my head with foreign oil.

My health insurance runneth out.

Surely megalomania and false patriotism shall follow me all the days of thy term,

And my jobless child shall dwell in my basement forever.
Fi, from Australia has a great .sig! She's on the Reborn list, and she quotes a letter writer to the Weekend Australian:

"With the US administration in chaos, it's time George W. Bush endorsed chaos theory. Then he could blame the floods on a butterfly flapping its wings somewhere, and even better, promise to find that butterfly, hunt it down and destroy it."

Thanks to Stephen for pointing out this story, written Four Years Ago:

Drowning New Orleans A major hurricane could swamp New Orleans under 20 feet of water, killing thousands. Human activities along the Mississippi River have dramatically increased the risk, and now only massive reengineering of southeastern Louisiana can save the city

Look below, on Sept. 6, when I pointed out the National Geographic article. That was bad enough, but now we see that there was plenty of evidence that pointed to this exact scenario. How can GWB say, with a straight face, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees." That's ridiculous!

How do we hold these people accountable for their (in)actions?

Or is it? Don't we all know people who think they have all the answers and jump from church to church when they don't get their way?

Firms with White House ties get Katrina contracts

When will this end? How is it that the Bush Administration can knowingly, callously continue to pillage our country? Halliburton has already received $9 Billion for its non-work in Iraq, with almost 20% of it either "questioned" or "unsupported."

But with $60 billion already available for the rebuilding of New Orleans and a projected cost of $100 billion, the Bush cronies lined up early. This web of deceit and handouts to political allies is obvious.

This is incredible. Has he no conscience? Or is he so clueless that he believes that what he's doing is ok?

I don't always agree with him.

But today I do. I hope we can get real answers to the questions he proposes.

For me, I have to say that I do not feel safer. I'm really beginning the fear for our personal safety in the event of an earthquake. I'm prepared - I have food and water stored both at home and the office. I have loads of camping gear and other resources. But I'm not sure that it will be enough. I'm not sure we'll get the help we'll need. My vulnerability could be medical help. Medications, etc. And I'm not as dependent on them as others. Those who need insulin and other life sustaining meds could be in for trouble in the event of a disruption.

I'm glad I'm not one of the people responsible for putting him in office.
Oh, yes! Let's give up more rights to the Feds!!

"The Bush administration was studying whether to expand the president's powers to deploy the U.S. military in natural disasters."

The Bushies have been methodically whittling away our rights, taking more and more for themselves and their cronies. In addition, this is blame shifting of the highest order.

National Geographic Magazine foretells New Orleans disaster in October 2004

"It's not if it will happen," says University of New Orleans geologist Shea Penland. "It's when."
