Boy Scout Troop Treasurer Arrested
There's very little oversight of funds in troops and other small non-profit organizations. It's particularly sad to see the trust of the boys broken like this. However, an active, semi-large scout troop can have thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dollar flow through their account in a single year. Our Jamboree troop had over a $120,000 run through its budget. With 60-70 boys going to summer camp, at $500 a kid, plus outings, high adventure trips and fund raisers, it's easy to see how this kind of cash could go missing.
I sure hope that this is all a big mistake, but I can't help but wonder, "What happened to trustworthy?"
