Then:

Now:

Isn't it time to quit? Or at least time to quit taking pictures? I remember when all the women thought Mick was cute - now they think he's "held up pretty well." For a guy who has abused himself for 60+ years, I guess he does.

Oh and Keith Richards? Skeletor, anyone?

Just to clarify, in the top photo we have, from left to right: Bill Wyman, Mick Jagger, (the late) Brian Jones, Charlie Watts, and Keith Richards.

In the bottom photo, again from left to right: Charlie Watts, Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, and Ron Wood.

I agree, though, that the Stones should give serious thought to hanging it up; although they remain accomplished musicians and can still rock out to a certain extent, more and more they come off as merely a jaded parody of their former glories.

Heck, even Charlie Watts has devoted a good bit of his time to playing some decent jazz in the off-season ...

I didn't mean to imply that it was the members then and now, but the band then and now.

However, I was really struck with how *old* they all look now. So I went on a hunt for the Youthful Stones. They really do look like old codgers, don't they?

I saw the stones in... 1986? '89? '90? One of those years and I remember thinking that it was getting close to retirement time for them, so I wanted to see them before they hung it up. Still hasn't happened!

I know you didn't, Lou; I just wanted to offer some additional detail for anyone reading this who might not happen to be so - shall we say - "mature" as we are.

Yes, the Stones do indeed look like old coots; funny, though, that when *I* look in the mirror, I still see a 21-year-old looking back at me (even if no one else does)!

And believe it or not, I can still shred a fairly decent surf guitar riff or two, when I'm in the proper mood ... !

Rock on,

Stephen

By the way, of all the Stones, I think that drummer Charlie Watts has aged the most gracefully; who'da thunk ... ?!

Mainly ... who would have thought that Keef would still be alive in 2005? I remember in 1980 thinking he had no more than a couple of years to go...
