Widgets
I'm not sure if there is a Windows equivilent, but on the Mac the Dashboard is a really cool thing. I'll still play with this - but you might want to check it out.

There's no Windows equivalent. The Dashboard rawks. And I thought it was a dumb idea at first...
I found this program: http://www.konfabulator.com/
It is a runtime engine for Windows and OSX that allows you to run widgets. Why you would run Konfabulator for OSX I'm not sure. I believe it's easier and far better to spend your pennies on the new version of OSX, than to run this.
I'm having fun with them - I'm using the IMDB, Dashflix, SMS 2.0 which is a text messaging widget and an eBay watcher. I though it would be weird to use like you did, but I'm really liking it.
The Dashflix one is difficult to download - I have it on my laptop, but their servers must be getting hammered, I haven't been able to download it on my desktop yet.
