The fires are getting pretty bad in Southern California. I drove to work this morning with the top down in my convertible - but I probably shouldn't have. Smelled smoke all the way into Hollywood. The San Gabriel mountains, which have been clear for the past few days because of the winds, are now hazy and smoky. Downtown Los Angeles isn't visible from La Crescenta/Glendale.
There aren't any fires right near us, but from our front window we can see the Simi Valley/Moorpark Fires. You'd think we'd have some pretty spectacular sunsets, but they've been obliterated by the smoke. As the sun sets, it ends up being blocked by the smoke - so no pretty sunsets. Just a dank, orange cast over everything.
One of the fires was set by a lost hunter. Hunters aren't known for their brilliance anyway, but this guy really should have taken one for the team. Several deaths, hundreds of homes, thousands of acres burned and millions of dollars spent, all because this guy couldn't drop a few bread crumbs and find his way home. He really needs to learn to drink less, and use a compass more.
